The way to the personal colour of your choice
- This is how your individual colour is created
Your chosen colour is a mix of organic and inorganic pigments as well as a binder, a solvent and a range of additives. The organic pigments provide the colour’s brilliance and boldness, whereas the inorganic pigments ensure the finish’s weather resistance. Adding metal platelets produces the fascinating effect of the metallic paint finishes.
- This is how the paint is applied to the vehicle
Although no thicker than a human hair, the paint finish on an Audi is made up of four layers. First, a primer is applied to the body to protect it from corrosion. For this step, the entire vehicle is rotated through a dip tank to coat every millimetre of every recess with the paint layer. Afterwards, the body is dried for 45 minutes at 180°C.
- And so it continues
The second step is the so-called filler layer. This smooths any surface irregularities and has the elasticity required to prevent the finish from cracking if hit by a stone chip. The third layer is the colour paint finish. This base finish is applied to the surface of your Audi using a fast-rotating sprayer. In the fourth step, a protective layer of clear varnish is added, which must then harden for half an hour at 140°C.

- How our leather is made
We conduct over 30 different tests before selecting the right leather. These are designed to check such parameters as abrasion resistance, light fastness, shrinkage behaviour, bending strength, resistance to tensile forces, emissions and flammability.
- We process carefully
To maintain the genuineness of the leather, it is gently refined using substances including vegetable dyes. This creates a material that is durable, long lasting and highly emotive in equal measure.
- How to turn wood into décor
As a matter of principle, Audi doesn’t use tropical wood. Even if it’s cultivated on a plantation, we absolutely refuse to process it. Instead, we use classic oak, fascinating woods such as myrtle and eucalyptus, as well as elegant piano finish black. In addition to the woods, you can also choose from a selection of colours and grains.

Frequently asked questions
For ordering an Audi with Audi exclusive individualisation, we recommend consulting with your Audi partner in advance. In addition to clarify which vehicle is right for you, your dealer can also advise you comprehensively on the possible individualisation offers. Many Audi partners have current samples on site for customised paint finishes and leather as well as suede faux leather, decorative inlays or carpets, so that you can match your exterior colour directly to the colours and materials of the interior, for example. Since not every individualisation element is available for every vehicle, but at the same time not all individualisation options can be represented in the Audi Configurator or the Audi catalogue, we recommend a personal consultation in order to be able to discuss every wish in detail. Our dealers will be happy to support you in realising your very own personal wishes. Your Audi is customised when you order your new car. After placing the order, you will be informed about the delivery date and looking forward to it with excitement can begin.

Extravagant colours and material assemblies are available on site, from sporty to elegant, which also allow you to go far beyond the creative possibilities of the standard range. For effective advice, we require the Audi code of your pre-configured Audi model. This allows us to discuss the desired Audi modifications with you individually. Arranging a personal consultation appointment is a prerequisite for this.

Paint finish: A large selection of paint colours with over 50 shades is available for customising your vehicle. In order to meet the very high demands of AUDI AG and Audi Sport GmbH and to be able to guarantee extremely high paint quality over the long term, ultra-modern painting systems have been installed. The desired shade is mixed using organic and inorganic pigments. Organic pigments ensure the radiance of the colours, while inorganic pigments are very resistant to ageing. Together, they guarantee the long-lasting colour intensity of the paint. The high requirement for an Audi exclusive customised paint finish is a consistent appearance on all materials - and that for years to come. Therefore, each colour is extensively tested before approval.
Metallic paint finishes: Tiny metal flakes added to the paint, create the fascinating effect of metallic paint finishes. The flakes are usually made of aluminium or brass. In order to produce a metallic paint finish, extremely gentle work is necessary so that the tiny metal flakes do not break. Our high requirements guarantee this.
Pearl effect paint finishes: Pearl effect paint finishes are characterised by the fact that they show different colours depending on the viewing angle. This effect is achieved by using pearl effect pigments. Pearl effect pigments are added to the paint, which produce a particularly strong angle-dependent difference in brightness. This gives them a special depth and a fascinating, lively play of colours.
Matt effect paint finishes: In addition, matt effect paint finishes are also available for selected models. We can currently offer the following colours: Nardo grey matt effect, Daytona grey matt effect, Suzuka grey matt effect, Ibis white matt effect, Florett silver matt effect, Glacier white matt effect and Vegas yellow matt effect.
Leather: Leather is a unique natural product; no two pieces are alike, which corresponds exactly to Audi's exclusive philosophy. During the process, great importance is attached to ensuring that the parts, processed for the interior, are perfectly matched to one another. A high-quality selection of the skins used and gentle processing preserves the naturalness and, at the same time, creates a material that is hard-wearing and durable. All types of leather used are chrome-free tanned, breathable and dyed through, so small scratches remain almost invisible during use.
Depending on where the leather will be used, wafer-thin layers of lacquer are applied, which, the thicker they are, make the leather less sensitive as a result. On the other hand, the thinner the lacquer layer is applied, the better the seating comfort.
Valcona leather: Valcona leather has a low application of varnish, is highly breathable and has no artificial embossing.
Fine Nappa leather: Fine Nappa leather has a medium application of varnish, is moderately breathable and has a low artificial embossing.
Woods and decors: Audi exclusive only uses selected genuine woods that emphasise the character of the vehicle in question. The range extends from classic oak to the fascinating varieties of fine grain myrtle, open-pored ash or eucalyptus to fine decors such as piano finish or carbon. Decors made of open-pored woods have the typical haptics of natural wood. This turns the interior into a unique quiet zone with feel-good character. Audi does not use tropical wood, even if it was grown on a plantation.
Leather: For the leather of Audi seats, mainly hides of male cattle from southern Europe are processed. These have a special surface and thickness ratio and are therefore particularly suitable. Leather from the back area of the animals is of the highest quality, as it has an even fibre structure and only rarely shows cracks or injuries. To be processed as leather for Audi exclusive, the following quality criteria must be met:
Chrome-free tanning process: More than two decades ago - as a pioneer in the automotive industry at the time - Audi abandoned chromium salts in order to avoid waste contaminated with heavy metals. Audi only uses chrome-free tanned leather and thus consistently pursues its ethical obligation with regard to leather skin production.
Surface protection: Depending on the quality of the leather, various finishes are developed. These various finishes ensure high breathability and thus improve the seating comfort.
Test cycle: Leather applications in cars are subject to extreme stress: High-temperature differences, strong heat effects due to standing times in the sun, getting in and out of the vehicle, transport of heavy and hard objects, as well as the effect of sweat. Before leather is processed for Audi, it must pass more than 30 different tests. The laboratory tests include abrasion resistance, light fastness, shrinkage behaviour, bending strength, tensile strength, interior emissions and combustion behaviour. The leather is only then used for seats and interior parts once all tests have been passed. The tests last more than 12 months.
Wood/decor: Audi does not use tropical wood, even if it was grown on a plantation. The thin veneer sheets for the decorative inlays are peeled from trunks and so-called root burls. A set of parts usually comes from only one tuber or trunk, so that the individual parts in the vehicle are similar. Audi only uses real wood. The production is a symbiosis of manual work and mechanical production.
After production, a thorough quality check is carried out. UV light is used to check whether cracks or inclusions are present and whether the sealing layer is in order. Top coats are scratch-resistant during cleaning and have a UV blocker to ensure long-term colour fastness.
You can find the prices in the Configurator or in the price lists of your desired model on your country website.
For an individual selection of colours and materials, we generally recommend a personal consultation with an Audi partner. In addition to the vehicles in the showroom, many dealers have current samples on site for customised paint finishes and leather as well as suede faux leather, inlays or carpets. The digital or printed image of a real product can only give an impression. The content, in reality, depends, among other things, on the colour and brightness settings of your monitor or on ambient light.
